Alex Prates is a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and also holds a Certificate IV in Sports and Recreation (Fitness). As an experienced Managing Director, Alex Prates continually plans, monitors and manages the development and delivery of Gracie Jiu Jitsu programs. Due to diligent hard work and attention to detail his programs range from mainstream, to a variety of different target groups. Alex’s far reaching network of national and international coaching contacts have seen him coach five UFC fighters. The list includes UFC middleweight Champion of the world Robert Whittaker, 2014 Premiership winning South Sydney Rabbitohs, Brisbane Broncos and many corporate and community programs.
Most recently Alex established a partnership with the Aboriginal Pathways TAFE NSW Campbelltown Centre in conjunction with Macquarie Fields Sport and Fitness section to create the Certificate 4 in Fitness Gracie Jiu Jitsu Program.
Alex owns, operates and manages Gracie Smeaton Grange, as well as managing Gracie Headquarters in Alexandria. Alex’s ability to flow seamlessly through so many areas of the sporting and fitness industry make him the perfect advocate for Gracie Jiu Jitsu, not just as a self defence vessel but a conduit to a broader education.
